Let’s be honest: Universal is the "cool older sibling" of theme parks. It’s faster, louder, and—if you aren't careful—it can be a bit more exhausting! As a Mimi who has navigated these parks more times than I can count, I’ve learned that the secret to Universal isn't just about the biggest coaster; it’s about knowing the shortcuts that keep the whole family happy.

Hollywood or Orlando? Know Before You Go Whether we are planning a trip to Universal Studios Hollywood (perfect for a SoCal burst!) or the massive Universal Orlando Resort, the rules are a little different. In Orlando, you have three parks to juggle, including the water theme park, Volcano Bay. In Hollywood, it’s all about that iconic Studio Tour. I help my clients decide which one fits their "Secret Math" for the year.

The Wizarding World: A Mimi’s Must You can’t visit Universal without stepping into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

  • Mimi Tip: If you're in Orlando, you need the Park-to-Park ticket to ride the Hogwarts Express. Without it, you’re stuck on one side!

  • The Magic Wand: Yes, the interactive wands are a bit of an investment, but watching your grandkid make a fountain spray water with a flick of their wrist? That’s the legacy magic we’re looking for.

The "Express Pass" Strategy Unlike Disney’s pre-booking system, Universal’s Express Pass is a straightforward "skip the line" ticket.

  • The Secret Math: If you stay at certain Universal Premier Hotels in Orlando, the Express Pass is included for free for everyone in your room. Sometimes, the "expensive" hotel actually saves you hundreds of dollars in the long run. I do that math for you so you don't have to!

Dining & Hydration Universal can be hot! I always tell my neighbors: bring your own refillable water bottle. You can get free ice water at any Coca-Cola Freestyle station. And if you’re looking for a treat, skip the standard burgers and head straight for a Butterbeer (I prefer the frozen version, but don't tell the purists!).

Why Work with Magic Suitcase Getaways? Universal moves fast, and the rules change. Whether it's the latest update on Epic Universe or the best way to handle a rainy afternoon in Super Nintendo World, I stay on top of the details so you can stay in the moment. When you book with me, you’re getting more than a ticket—you’re getting a partner who wants your family’s vacation to be as legendary as the movies.

Planning Universal can be a whirlwind, but you don't have to do it alone! Grab my Universal Insider Guide below to see exactly how I save my clients time and money.
